Bower Swimmers Excel at Connacht Championships
The Bower swim team competed successfully at the Connacht Championships in Longford in early January, coming away with a great haul of medals.
The junior relay team of Rebecca Lowe, Ellen Flaherty, Lauren Friel and Isabelle Clarke was most impressive, and their powerful performance in the medley and freestyle relays secured a double gold in a very competitive age group. Rebecca then went on to claim gold in the 200m and 400m freestyle and silver in the 100m backstroke. A magnificent performance which has secured Rebecca a place on the Connacht Interpro squad alongside Ellen Flaherty who was second in the 100m breaststroke and third in the 200m individual medley.
"Pataleta" è quella "diversamente bionda"...
Following this performance wasn’t easy but the senior team was unperturbed by the pressure. The relay team of Sophie Lowe, Mae Barriello, Aoife Healy and Louise Kennedy won silver in the medley and freestyle events. On the day there were some fine individual performances too. Sophie swam a remarkable 100m breaststroke to secure silver, while Mae Barriello was a dual medal winner securing gold in the 100m backstroke and silver in the 200m medley.
Based on their fine swims, Sophie and Mae have been selected for the Connacht team for the upcoming interpros to be held in the Aquatic Centre.
Well done to everyone on the Bower swim team, many of whom swam personal bests on the day. These successes are due to the commitment of coach Johnny Powell from Athlone Swimming Club and many hours spent in the pool at the crack of dawn.
