Jasmine Paolini wins first hard court title in Woking
Jasmine Paolini won her first title away from her favoured clay on the ITF Pro Circuit, clinching the $25,000 crown in Woking, Great Britain on Sunday.
The 21-year-old Italian, who surprisingly considers hard court her favourite surface despite all five of her previous Pro Circuit triumphs coming on clay, defeated Romania’s Mihaela Buzarnescu 64 16 64 in the final for her sixth career singles title on the ITF women’s circuit.
It’s a second title this year for Paolini, who recorded the biggest triumph of her career in June when she won the $100k Marseille event with a three-set triumph over Tatjana Maria, going on to record a career-high ranking of No. 130 in the process.
A positive year for the youngster, currently ranked No. 133, has also seen her reach the semifinals at the $25,000 Santa Margherita Di Pula event on home soil in April, and make her debut in Fed Cup by BNP Paribas in ties against Slovakia and Chinese Taipei.
She was ranked high enough to gain entry into the WTA international event in Bastad at the end of July, but registered a solitary game in a tough loss against the experienced Carla Suarez Navarro.
